Next Speaker Please

In Constitution on January 3, 2015 at 9:09 pm

boehner-cryingJohn Boehner may not have such as easy vote this term for the Speakership.  In 1923, progressive Republicans refused to support the Republican Conference nominee for Speaker, Frederick Gillett (MA), on the floor.    Twenty progressive Republicans scattered their votes, which led to 8 inconclusive speakership ballots over 2 days.  Finally, the Republican leadership caved and met the progressives’ demands, and the progressives swung their votes to Gillett on the ninth ballot and elected him.  Two years later, after the regular Republicans added enough members to constitute a majority of the chamber, the Republican leadership, led by new Speaker Nicholas Longworth.  Nick used his power to make the Republicans a strong and vibrant party.  As the Son in law of Theodore Roosevelt and the Sitting Congressman from Taft’s district he had a lot of power.

Today we don’t have anyone with this type of Sub-Power in the Republican Party.  These Congressman have pledged to not support John Boehner for the Speakership on January 6, 2015 when the vote comes to the floor.

If just 25 more republicans withhold their support Speaker Boehner will be in trouble and a open Speaker-ship race could emerge.  Will the Democrats get smart and throw a few votes to Boehner, and give him the power to punish the conservatives in the party?  Will Trey Gowdy finally rise to power?  Will former Speaker Boehner get to play as much golf as he does today?  Will President Obama Invite him to play more Golf?  Who Cares what their golf game is like it’s time to replace and reform all of Congress.

Here are the men of fortitude how have offered up their votes early.  These are so far the Statesman the country has been seeking.

  • North Carolina Rep. Walter Jones
  • Representative Tom Massie (R-Ky.)
  • Republican Representative Gary Palmer (R-Ala.)
  • Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-Okla.)

If you don’t see your Congressman listed here, Call yours and give your opinion.  We elected our congress to support our wishes.  Here is the first test of 2015!
